Rural settlements in Caiolo
Cà di Rosa - Cà Rosse
Cà di Rosa
The rural settlement of Cà di Rosa is located at an elevation of 550 m a.s.l., along the path that departs from the town of Caiolo and reaches the small church of St. Anterus. The architectural features of the settlement are the proof of its very ancient origins. The settlement is nowadays totally abandoned and serves as a tool depot, and still shows the traces of a Medieval rural tradition. The houses, closely linked to each other, feature several carvings - mainly crosses - on their stone lintels. There are also wonderful archivolted portals and trilite windows. The settlement is well preserved and is undoubtedly worth a visit.
Cà Rosse
This settlement consists of a group of lined up homes, used as cattle sheds in winetr, when the fields along the river Adda became shared pastures. The group of buildings probably dates back to the 17th century and features interesting architectural elements, such as trilite windows, huge carved stones and archivolted portals. The line of homes is almost 50 m long and all the entrance doors are oriented Northwards. The buildings have been abandoned and are used sporadically, but the presence of drainpipes, wirings and fireplaces tell us that some houses were used until recent times.
